See bottom of post for update.
Sometimes I just hate computers. I get home from work today, turn on my laptop and what do I see, THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. Now what? I spend the next 2 hours on the desktop searching google for a solution to the error message. I finally find one that just might work and I end up having to download 3 programs as well as hunt down a blank CD so that I can burn the information. Now, the stupid battery on the laptop decides to die and I plug it in to the AC adapter and receive another message saying it doesn't recognize the adapter type. Great. It does say I can continue but there may be power issues.
Well, what choice do I have I set up the BIOS according to the instructions and proceed to boot the computer in DOS. I honestly don't know all that much about the programming side of a computer and without instructions written for dummies I will get completely turned around. Fortunately for me these instructions are quite clear. The computer responds according to plan, but at about 72% it shuts down. Power issues I suppose. The only real problem with that is that the very clear instructions state "DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER WHILE RUNNING CHKDSK or you can have severe
problems...". What was I to do? I don't know if this will work now, but I am currently trying to run CHKDSK again. Wish me luck it is currently at 55% and hopefully will finish this time. Needless to say I am not getting a collection done today. Hopefully things will go better tomorrow.
I ended up having to have the computer reformatted and having Windows re-installed. Now, it is just a matter of having all the updates downloaded and installed so that I can get back to what I need to be doing. Will try to get a new collection and post up for tomorrow, but don't know if I will have the time.
O.o my humble advise is to NOT continue running chkdsk as you may have serious data loss if it shuts down while working on chkdsk.
ReplyDeleteThe "BSO - Blue Screen Of Death" most of the time means that it is some sort of hardware failure. It's best to seek professional help.
